Who we are
dumpster.ca operates a directory of dumpster and bin rental companies in Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in connection with the website and related services.
Information we collect
- Account & billing data, name, email, password, business details, billing address/province, and payment metadata when you register, claim, or subscribe (card data is handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers).
- Listing data, business name, phone, address/service area, website, logo, photos, and related fields. Unclaimed listings may be compiled from publicly available sources and marked “Unclaimed”.
- Quote requests, fields a customer enters on a Premium listing quote form (typically name, phone, email, project address/city, bin size, waste type, preferred date, project details).
- Usage data, pages viewed, phone reveals/taps, website clicks, and quote submits in our first-party event log, plus server logs (IP, user agent) needed for security and diagnostics.
- Communications, messages you send us (support, claim disputes, removal requests).
Purposes
We use personal information to: operate and improve the directory; verify claims; process Premium subscriptions and taxes; deliver quote requests; prevent fraud and abuse; measure feature performance; comply with law; and communicate service/transactional messages.
Quote form data
When you submit a quote form, we collect the fields you provide for the purpose of sending them to the hauler you selected and (where configured) emailing you a confirmation. We do not sell quote information. We retain quote payloads only as needed to deliver the request, troubleshoot delivery, and meet legal/accounting needs, then delete or aggregate them. The hauler becomes responsible for how they handle the lead once received.
CASL / email
At launch we send transactional electronic messages (account verification, claim notices, quote confirmations, billing receipts, password resets). We do not send commercial electronic messages (marketing) without appropriate consent under CASL. If we introduce marketing email later, we will obtain express consent where required and include an unsubscribe mechanism.
Sharing & processors
We share personal information with:
- The hauler you contact via quote form or publicly listed phone/email/website;
- Payment processors (e.g. Stripe via GetPaid) for subscriptions;
- Hosting, email delivery, and security providers who process data on our instructions;
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information.
Storage & cross-border transfers
Our hosting and some processors may store or process data outside Canada (including the United States). Where that occurs, personal information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. We use providers we believe apply reasonable safeguards.
Retention
Account and listing data are kept while active and for a reasonable period afterward (for example disputes, tax, and security). Quote payloads and raw event logs are kept on a shorter rolling basis unless needed longer for a specific investigation or legal hold. You may ask us to delete account data subject to legal retention needs.
Your choices & rights
Subject to PIPEDA and applicable provincial law, you may request access to or correction of your personal information, withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing (without affecting prior lawful processing), or request deletion/removal of a listing you own or that incorrectly represents your business. Use “Report or remove this listing” or email us. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
Cookies & analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for session login, security, and preferences. We may enable privacy-conscious analytics once configured; if we do, this policy will note the tool. You can control cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work if disabled.
Security
We use HTTPS, access controls, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Quebec
dumpster.ca is not currently offered in Quebec. We do not solicit Quebec customers or list Quebec service areas at this time. If that changes, we will update this Privacy Policy (and related notices) before expanding into the province.
Children
The directory and hauler accounts are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for accounts or claims.
